I am an American long-distance runner with a personal best time of 2:12:28 in the marathon. I grew up playing soccer since the age of four and thought what better way to get in shape for soccer than to run high school track. In my first track meet in high school in 2002, I ran a 4:56 mile in a dual meet and started to love running. What I learned in 2002 and continue to love about this sport today, is the simplicity that having consistency, dedication, positivity and a strong inner belief can lead to extraordinary results and accomplishing lofty goals. I ended up switching from soccer to cross country and track and ended my high school career with a still-standing school and PIAA District XI record 9:13 3200m. In college, I improved each year and culminated with earning All-American honors in the 10k in my final race in a Penn State uniform in 2010. After graduating with a BS and MS in Meteorology in five years, I moved from State College, PA to Boulder, CO to finish my PhD and run competitively on the roads. In my first marathon in 2010, I ran 2:17 and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials. Since then, I've been competing on the roads in races from the mile to the marathon with highlights of earning a 2nd place finish at the 2017 USA Marathon Championships and competing in 3 Olympic Marathon Trials and qualified for my 4th in 2022 for the 2024 Olympic Games.

“First with the head, then with the heart, that’s how you stay ahead from the start” - Power of One
In 2012, I started being coached by former marathon world record holder Steve Jones in the Boulder Harriers group out of Boulder, CO. We have a strong commitment to each other in pursuing individual goals in a positive, encouraging team environment. All of us work full-time jobs, yet we show up at 7am multiple times a week, ready to run eyeballs out, with Jonesy encouraging us with great one-liners on his bike.

My top priority in life is family and I could not balance everything without the incredible support of my wife Kristin. The majority of mornings at 6am when I am not working out with the team or chasing Strava segment crowns, you can find Kristin and I on treadmills at home getting our runs in before the sun and our kids are up for the day. Our son Levi was born in 2019 and we welcomed our son Jack in May of 2022.

I work for Equilibrium Energy as the Head of Machine Learning (ML) Sciences, an innovative clean power company for the climate generation. Equilibrium Energy is on a mission to help fight climate change by beneficial electrification of the power industry with more renewable energy. I lead the ML Sciences team, developing innovative machine learning predictive solutions to better integrate renewable energy. I love bringing my meteorological expertise and data science skills to help advance the renewable energy industry. The simplicity of running hard in pursuit of running goals certainly balances this deeply analytical and technical career work.

I'm a purist in many forms, including one of my favorite hobbies fly-fishing. If you find me on the river, you'll probably see me dry fly fishing with a little black fly that I tied myself. I find the greatest enjoyment in life comes from times when you're really in the present moment. That typically happens for me when being with family, when running hard, or on a river watching my fly drift on the water's surface.
